How do you paint with Chalky Chicks paint?

Chalky Chicks paint is very pigmented, so a little goes a long way. The consistency of Chalky Chicks paint is thick, like a melted milkshake. The longer the lid stays off, the thicker it will get. If you like a thinner look, just add a little water and stir. Clean the item you want to paint, take a damp brush and paint your first coat. It will dry quickly. Some items may need a second coat. After about 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the humidity in your region, add another coat.

Can I mix Chalky Chicks paint colors?

Sure. Chalky Chicks is very blend-able. You can mix any of our colors to create colors that are uniquely your own. Click here to see our color options.

Can you paint leather? Fabric?

Yes you can use Chalky Chicks Paint to paint both leather and fabric. When painting fabric, water down your paint until it is very thin. Spray your fabric piece with water and then paint with Chalky Chicks paint. This will take a few coats to complete, but at the end, you should have a soft luxurious finish. The trick is to stain the fabric. You want to let the fabric absorb the paint instead of just sitting on top of it. You can sand the fabric with 200 grit sanding sponge in between coats of paint to keep the fabric soft.

For leather, lightly mist the surface with water, then paint as you normally would. Once the paint is dry, sand the surface with a 220 grit sanding sponge to give it a leather like appearance.

Choose your finish, either wax or clear coat will work. Remember to water down your clear coat when painting on fabric to keep the fabric soft and pliable.

What are the VOC levels in Chalky Chicks Paint?

Our products contain zero to ultra-low VOC levels so they’re very environmentally friendly and safe.

How do I do a layered look?

Paint a base color and after it dries paint a second color. Utilize a 150 to 220 sanding sponge & begin sanding away to allow the base color to show through. Also, you can do a wet distress. Simply dampen a sanding sponge & lightly wipe away until the first coat’s revealed. This works really well if you’ve painted the first coat & waited a few days & then applied the second coat. You’ll need to wet distress within hours after application since once cured, paint’s difficult to get removed.

With Chalky Chicks paint, you get to choose your finish. Whether that be a mate clear coat, a gel polycrylic, or a wax, Chalky Chicks leaves that decision up to you.

How much can I paint with each size?

There are factors that contribute to the amount of coverage, but usually it will cover about 15 - 20 sq. ft. with 4 oz, 60 - 75 sq. ft. with 16 oz and double that with 32 oz. Another way to think of it is that one 32 oz jar of paint is enough to paint two 9 drawer dressers. One 16 oz jar of paint is enough to paint one 9 drawer dresser and a 4 oz is enough to paint a few chairs.
